What your day-to-day will look like in this position:

As the Head of Science – Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW), you will lead the scientific strategy behind our ERW projects.

  • Define scope, objectives, and timelines aligned with the company’s strategic goals.
  • Monitor trends, technologies, and emerging legislation in climate mitigation and agronomy.
  • Plan and oversee pilot plots, design field operations, and establish partnerships with research institutions.
  • Develop land preparation processes, soil sampling protocols, and environmental monitoring procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards for field activities in accordance with regulatory norms.
  • Lead field teams in the application and monitoring of rocks in pilot and large-scale trials.
  • Publish results in scientific journals and uphold the highest standards of scientific rigor in all initiatives.
  • Contribute to public communications, including presentations, workshops, and industry events.
  • Act as the company’s scientific spokesperson with partners, public agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Build relationships with universities, research centers, and industry groups to foster joint studies.
  • Write and submit funding proposals to secure resources for new and ongoing projects.
  • Maintain relationships with funding agencies (government, private investors, research consortia).
  • Ensure compliance with guidelines and accountability requirements.
  • Work closely with financial and legal teams to ensure traceability of carbon reductions, project performance, and credit generation.
  • Coordinate the registration and reporting processes with carbon credit registries, ensuring accurate documentation and verification of carbon reductions.
  • Maintain an active relationship with registries and monitor methodological or regulatory updates.
  • Recruit, train, and manage a multidisciplinary scientific and technical team.
  • Provide guidance, feedback, and professional development opportunities.
  • Promote a collaborative culture focused on innovation, critical thinking, and knowledge sharing.

What you need to succeed in this role:

  • Education: Ph.D. in Geosciences, Soil Science, Environmental Sciences, Agronomy, or related fields (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Research Experience: Proven track record of scientific publications and experience in field research and data analysis.
  • Project and Team Management: Demonstrated success in leading multidisciplinary projects and scientific teams, preferably in environmental or agricultural contexts.
  • Fundraising: Experience writing and securing funding from public agencies, NGOs, or private foundations; familiarity with project budgeting and accounting.
  • Carbon Credits: Knowledge of carbon credit registries and compliance requirements is a plus.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with soil chemistry, geochemical modeling, and carbon accounting methods is highly desirable.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to translate complex research for both scientific and non-scientific audiences.

  • Proficiency in research design, statistical analysis, and tools such as R, Python, or similar.
  • Willingness to travel and manage operational challenges in remote field locations.
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese.
